Our community-based early childhood education center provides comprehensive high-quality care and education in north Minneapolis.
Through the use of Creative Curriculum® for Preschool — a widely used, comprehensive curriculum based on child development and early education research and theory — we offer a variety of learning experiences to foster the children’s physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development within in a nurturing and caring environment.
Our services, programs, and offerings include:
- Science, math, writing, art, and pre-reading curriculum
- Off-site field trips
- Problem solving and conflict resolution education

Established in 1929, we are one of the oldest continuously operating child care programs in Minnesota. Housed in the Phyllis Wheatley Community Center, we’re committed to the center’s asset-building approach that helps individuals and families understand and build upon their strengths.
Mary T. Wellcome Child Development Center offers low-cost tuition. Partial and full scholarships are available to families that qualify. We also accept daycare assistance.
