Digital skills, resources, and opportunities for our North Minneapolis community.
Girls Who Code
at Phyllis Wheatley Community Center
Phyllis Wheatley Communiity Center partners with Girls Who Code to bring the empowerment-through-coding model to young women in our Northside community. Girls Who Code is on a mission "to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does." Here, we're working to close both the gender and race divide in the digital space.
Girls ages 12-17 are invited to join our volunteer instructor, Gabby Doran of Comcast to learn the basics of coding and discover how they can turn their skills in technology into successful careers.
ManCode Mentoring
Now in its fourth year, ManCode Mentoring brings young men together for an intensive annual workshop over MEA Weekend. Youth get the chance to hear from role models who have found success in the tech industry on topics ranging from robotics to self care and social skills, meet mentors who can help guide them toward successful futures, and envision themselves working in the technology industry.
This event is a collaboration between Phyllis Wheatley Community Center, Microsoft, and 100 Black Men of the Twin Cities.
If you're interested in supporting the ManCode workshop by assisting during MEA weekend, please click the link below and register! If you want to be one of our speakers, please send a note to AmondoD@phylliswheatley.org or call 612-374-4342. Thank you for your commitment to our Northside youth!
