We're creating pathways for individuals to discover their strengths and take control of their futures.
At Phyllis Wheatley Community Center, we believe in the transformative power of education and restoration, and the profound impact of empowering marginalized voices. Founded in North Minneapolis nearly 100 years ago, our organization is dedicated to breaking barriers, fostering opportunities, and creating equity and equality for the African American community.
Though our community remains chronically underserved, the people we work with are filled with resilience, determination, and perseverance, unique to only those who have come far, but still have much further to go.
Why We Do It
We envision a vibrant, inclusive community where everyone has access to essential resources and opportunities to reach their highest potential. We strive to create an equitable community of collaboration, trust, and mutual respect, with an overarching goal to advance equality for African Americans in our city, and everywhere.
Phyllis Wheatley Community Center works to create a positive and lasting impact through:
-
Education: We provide courses and programs that allow clients to overcome obstacles, find healing and restoration, and unlock their true talents.
-
Community Outreach: We learn from our community, adapting our services to fill gaps and meet needs as they arise, providing resources and support to address each individual's unique challenges.
-
Empowering Voices: We amplify the voices of our community, promoting social justice and advocating for equal rights and opportunities. We encourage our clients to gain the skills they need to advocate for themselves, and claim their rights to equality and equity.
Join Us in Our Journey Toward Equity. Together, we can build a brighter future where dreams know no bounds. Whether you're a passionate advocate, a philanthropist with a desire to make a difference, or someone seeking support, we invite you to be a part of our mission. Join us in empowering dreams and elevating voices, as we strive to create a more inclusive and equitable world for all.
